Comfortable, Stylish Sandals for Seniors

I first discovered Clarks shoes about 10 years ago, and I’ve been a great fan ever since. My great-aunt was in her 70’s at that time, and she had suffered for years with shoes that hurt her aging feet. On each of her feet, she had toes that overlapped, so she had, years earlier, abandoned closed-toe shoes for open-toed sandals that would accommodate her toes.

But the thing with most sandals is that they narrow toward the front and would squish her toes together, making them taller and less able to fit into the narrowed front of the shoe. Another problem was her plantar fascitis, which required her to have a slight heel so that her foot would curve properly at the arch.

Most “comfortable” sandals are flat, with no heel and no arch. And most sandals with a heel and arch, firstly, have a dangerous heel for a woman in her 70s and, secondly, are “stylish” so they narrow at the top. My great-aunt was in despair for years, wasting money on new shoes that seemed comfortable at the store, but caused her pain after taking them home.

Her doctor suggested some shoes, which she diligently purchased, but honestly, they looked awful! And they were closed-toe shoes, which still bothered the tops of her overlapping toes – not to mention, you had to wear socks with them, so they were very hot during the summer.

We discovered the Clarks sandals one day when we were shopping one day. Her eagle eye was always on the lookout through the shop windows for sandals with a lower wedged heel. She spotted the Clarks and tried them on. They had the low-wedged heel and slight arch that she was looking for, and the open toe at the front was wide and loose over her toes. Happy at the store, she figured she’d try them, so she took them home.

She never bought another brand after that, and several of her neighbors and siblings donned the shoes themselves.

Clarks, an international company based in England, has been making shoes for almost 200 years! It turns out, they’re one of the largest shoe companies in the world. From careerwear to weekend wear, they provide men and women with comfortable, stylish footwear.

Stores can be a bit pricey for the Clarks, but I found this great online store called Shoebuy.com

They have a great selection of Clarks at great prices with free shipping.
